Tesla's Initial Delivery of Model Y Vehicles from Giga Berlin Arrives in Canada
Tesla's First Shipment of Model Y Vehicles from Gigafactory Berlin Arrives in Canada
Tesla has made a significant move to boost its Canadian EV sales, with the first shipment of Model Y vehicles from Gigafactory Berlin officially arriving in Canada. The arrival marks Tesla's first direct imports from Europe for Canadian customers.
The shipment, which was spotted at the Dartmouth Autoport in Halifax, Nova Scotia, consists of several hundred German-built Model Ys. The initial deliveries are expected to begin within the next two weeks, primarily in eastern Canada due to proximity to the port.
The arrival of these vehicles is a critical step for Tesla as Canadian EV sales have slumped this year. Registrations of Tesla vehicles in the first half of 2025 have dropped by 67%, according to recent data. The arrival of lower-cost Model Ys from Germany could help Tesla stabilize demand and potentially claw back lost market share in Canada.
AndrΓ© Thierig, the manager of Gigafactory Berlin, sent the first Model Y vehicles to Canada. The factory has been producing the new Model Y Performance since earlier this year, but it is currently only available in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Gigafactory Berlin has produced 100,000 refreshed Model Ys since opening in 2022.
Reservation holders have confirmed that VINs are now being assigned for Model Y deliveries. In Canada, only the Model Y Long Range is available, with the price reduced by $20,000 CAD in July, bringing it down to $64,990, thanks to the switch to Berlin-built Model Ys.
The sighting of the Model Y shipment was first shared on Reddit by user /u/ChampionshipMean628. The arrival of these vehicles is a significant milestone for Tesla's expansion in Canada and a positive step towards increasing its market share in the EV sector.
