High-Stakes Gambler Faces Charges for Alleged Involvement in People Smuggling

In a shocking turn of events, Elvis Bersai Lopez-Ambrosio, better known as "Pepe" in the poker livestream community Hustler Casino Live, has been charged with human trafficking crimes related to the Lopez Human Smuggling Organization. This organization allegedly operated between the United States and Guatemala, facilitating the smuggling of undocumented migrants through Mexico into the US.

According to the indictment made by the United States Attorney's Office of New Mexico, Lopez-Ambrosio is accused of managing a network of mid-level smugglers, handling money transfers through banks, peer-to-peer apps, and cash, and directing co-conspirators to open trace-resistant bank accounts for laundering proceeds. The operation is believed to have generated between $104 million and $416 million from September 2020 to April 2023.

Specifically, Lopez-Ambrosio and Whiskey Hans Lopez-Ambrosio worked with Mexican smugglers to facilitate entry of migrants from Guatemala to the US, and he managed the financial side of money movement, real estate purchases, and payments to the organization’s leader, Ronaldo Galindo Lopez-Escobar.

Pepe's connection to the Hustler Casino Live poker streaming scene was well known, but following the indictment, he is unlikely to return. The show itself has faced other controversies but has not commented on this case.

In addition to the human trafficking charges, Pepe gained a reputation for loose play and being unafraid to play large pots on the Hustler Casino Live stream. However, another player, Mars, was publicly called out for alleged cheating in private games on Hustler Casino Live. A high-profile cheating investigation was sparked by a controversial call made by Robbi Jade Lew.

If found guilty, Pepe faces up to 20 years in prison. The funds received were then withdrawn and either given to Elvis, converted into assets like real estate, or sent to Lopez-Escobar or his nominees in Guatemala, with the aim of minimizing trackability.

This case serves as a reminder of the complex and often hidden networks that can operate within societies, and the importance of upholding the law to protect individuals from exploitation. The investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected in the coming months.
